Clean Water for Honduras

In the fall of 1998 on the last day of the hurricane season, Hurricane Mitch dumped 71" of rain on Honduras in 72 hours.  It was the worst disaster the country has ever had, according to the First Lady of Honduras.   The Gulley Foundation and its network of partners sent 32 chlorine generators to provide 20,000 gallons of pure drinking water per day, per unit to the people in that country.

The Gulley Foundation continued to work with this unique system by bringing the Sr. Vice President of Morton Salt together with Devon McGuire, the inventor.  They now use iodized salt as part of the process, which kills 99% of water-borne diseases.  This purification system is now being used by many missions throughout the world.

About this same time in 1998, inventor and humanitarian Joseph Shunskis approached the Gulley Foundation with a unique way of drilling for water.  The foundation provided travel expenses for Joseph to collaborate with an oil well-drilling company in Houston.  The head of the oil drilling company commented before they met Joseph, that "he sounded like he had a blue-sky idea that would never work", but after meeting with him, they agreed to start manufacturing these units.

The units can drill wells to three depths - 32 feet, 80 feet and 200 feet at a cost of between $900 and $5,000.  The $5,000 system can provide fresh, pure water for a whole village. Today, these drilling systems are being used by many other humanitarian aid organizations.

For over ten years the Gulley Foundation has set up and helped Ed Mattson expand disaster relief.
